Sony unveils new PlayStation gaming monitor with VRR and DualSense dock

Sony has introduced the new Sony PlayStation gaming monitor, a 27-inch display made for PS5 players. It was revealed during the State of Play Japan event, alongside a new Japan-exclusive PS5 Digital Edition that offers a more affordable option for local gamers.

A cheaper PS5 just for Japan

The PS5 Digital Edition (825GB) launches in Japan on November 21, 2025, for 55,000 yen (around €300). It’s much cheaper than the PS5 Digital Edition (€499.99) or the standard PS5 (€549.99) sold in Europe. Even the high-end PS5 Pro (€799.99) costs more than twice as much.

The Japan-only release echoes Nintendo’s budget Switch 2 strategy. Sony aims to boost local sales and grow its PlayStation base at home. So far, the company has sold 84.2 million PS5s worldwide — just shy of the PS4’s 86.1 million units after five years.

The new Sony PlayStation gaming monitor

The new Sony PlayStation gaming monitor offers 27 inches of immersive display with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) for smooth, lag-free visuals. It also includes a built-in DualSense charging dock, keeping controllers powered right where you play.

Sony hasn’t revealed pricing or launch dates yet, but the design fits perfectly with the PS5’s clean, minimal aesthetic — a true plug-and-play setup for gamers who care about both performance and style.

The showcase also confirmed the first major Elden Ring: Nightreign DLC from FromSoftware, adding another big win for RPG fans.

Sony’s hardware updates may not redefine gaming, but they reflect a clear goal: refine the PlayStation ecosystem. Between the new Sony PlayStation gaming monitor and a lower-cost PS5, the company is betting on accessibility and design simplicity to strengthen its future lineup.
