The Mega Dimension DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A arrives on December 10, bringing a substantial post-game story, new areas to explore and more creatures to catch. The update lands just weeks after the base game’s release, and it’s shaping up to be the title’s biggest content expansion so far.
Nintendo priced the Mega Dimension DLC at $30, a move that will likely reignite long-running debates about the cost of add-on content. However, the expansion appears to deliver far more depth than the original post-game, which felt thin for many players.
Mega Dimension DLC adds a new post-game story
One of the biggest additions in the Mega Dimension DLC is a full narrative arc set after the main campaign. While Z-A included some post-game objectives, it offered little in terms of story. The expansion reconnects players with Lumiose City’s residents and even brings back several iconic characters from Pokémon X and Y who were missing from the base game.
The plot centers on dimensional travel enabled by the legendary Pokémon Hoopa. Players enter an alternate version of Lumiose City, complete with redesigned districts, new traversal routes and an expanded roster of Pokémon to discover.
New Pokémon and an alternate Lumiose City
The Mega Dimension DLC introduces species that aren’t native to the region, including standout additions like Baxcalibur and Corviknight. This interdimensional city serves as a fresh sandbox for exploration, catching and team-building.
Another major change: Pokémon can now level up beyond 100, giving players a new endgame progression path. It’s a meaningful incentive for veteran fans who enjoy building optimized teams after completing the main story.
Whether this alternate Lumiose includes new collectible hunts—such as an updated set of hidden Colorful Screws—remains unknown. For players who love parkouring across rooftops, a refreshed set of challenges would be a welcome surprise.
Free update adds a bonus sidequest
Alongside the paid expansion, Game Freak also released a free update. Players can unlock an additional sidequest using the Mystery Gift feature. Even those skipping the DLC will still have something new to explore.
A fun but imperfect game that gains new depth
Pokemon Legends: Z-A remains a divisive but genuinely enjoyable entry in the franchise. The game still suffers from bugs, dated visuals and a tutorial that overstays its welcome. Lumiose City occasionally feels empty, and navigation can be confusing. Yet despite those issues, the core gameplay loop is fun, fast and surprisingly addictive.
The Mega Dimension DLC aims to reinforce that foundation with more story, more exploration and more reasons to return to Lumiose City.
