Oval Office collapse incident interrupts Trump drug-pricing announcement

The Oval Office collapse incident abruptly halted a Thursday press conference as a drug executive fell to the floor during remarks about a new deal to lower prices for obesity medications. The unexpected medical emergency briefly emptied the room as reporters were ushered out and doctors rushed in.

President Donald Trump had been outlining a pricing agreement with Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk when the situation unfolded, turning a controlled policy announcement into a moment of confusion and concern.

What happened during the Oval Office collapse incident

The interruption occurred while Eli Lilly CEO David Ricks was speaking. Ricks suddenly turned to his right and asked, “Are you okay? Gordon, are you okay?” Moments later, Dr. Mehmet Oz moved toward the collapsing executive in an attempt to assist as staff directed the press to leave immediately.

Also present in the room was U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who witnessed the event as it unfolded. For several minutes, no updates were provided, and the press conference remained paused.

Trump’s update on the executive’s condition

Roughly half an hour later, reporters were allowed back into the Oval Office. Trump offered a brief update, telling the press that the executive had become lightheaded.

“He’s fine,” Trump said. “They sent him out, and he’s got doctors here. But he’s fine.”

The administration did not name the individual during the remarks, and details about the cause of the collapse remain unknown.

Confusion over identity sparks conflicting reports

Initial reports identified the individual as Novo Nordisk executive Gordon Findlay. However, the company later disputed that claim, stating that only two representatives—Mike Doustdar and Dave Moore—were present in the room.

The conflicting information created uncertainty around who actually collapsed. Findlay, based in Switzerland, has worked as Global Brand Director at Novo Nordisk since 2023, leading recovery efforts for Norditropin amid supply shortages and managing global strategic marketing. But Novo Nordisk maintains that he was not present.

A pattern of medical incidents in the Oval Office

This was not the first time Dr. Oz found himself assisting during a medical situation in the Oval Office. In April, a child fainted during his swearing-in ceremony, causing a similar moment of confusion before cameras were shut off. The child, reportedly a family member, later recovered.

These repeated disruptions highlight how tightly orchestrated White House events can shift in seconds, especially when health emergencies collide with live media and policy announcements.
